There is no longer a Centaur-specific commemoration in Sydney and we have been invited, even encouraged, to join the Merchant Navy in making this Service the place for us to remember our Centaur personnel. Centaur was an Army hospital on a merchant ship, crewed by merchant seamen, 45 of whom lost their lives. The hospital staff, the passengers in the 2/12 Field Ambulance and the merchant crew are all commemorated together at Rookwood.
Annual Commemoration of the Merchant Navy Memorial and Columbarium, 1, Hawthorn Ave, Rookwood Necropolis, normally held mid-April on a Sunday, followed by light refreshments on site.
